Feb

Quiet week and end to the month:
Wind had dropped overnight on the 23rd/24th and experimented with some noc-mig @ Ventnor: some redwings over, plus a wader sp.
Sea watch (28th) early A.M: despite the change to Southerlies it was quiet at SCP; one common scoter [E] was the sum of it....

Inshore Kitt off Spring Vale (Feb 26th).

Feb - 2nd Winter YL Gull

The strong Westerly winds and reasonably mild temps continue. Even the end of this month looks likely to close in similar fashion.

The sea has been quiet. On the 20th at SCP there was a movement of fulmar that provided some interest: with 19 West into a gusty SW wind. And a Yellow-legged gull was at Whale Chine on the 21st. The coastal muddy pools there look 'interesting' and extensive: compared to a year ago when it was bone dry. Sizable and fresh looking land slips along there were obviously quite noticeable.

20th: fulmar movement; most not this close.

 Sheltering from the relentless winds.

 Whale Chine: 3cy/2nd winter YL.

Feb

I've decided I'm going to try and get more out of my current camera - it's only a 'bridge' type but I'm guilty of relying on the auto mode too often. Comparison with five years ago and my photography skills then (tho it's phone scoped):
2015

Up to five black reds have been in the area this winter.

Common plume moth (I think).

Sunday looks intense [SSW] - carrying over to Monday/Tues [W].

January

Mild dreary winter continues...

One (poss two) Crossbill heard on the 29th/Parkhurst Forest. Photo is from last summer and taken in Scotland.

Having never seen one this close up I took the opportunity to.

Tail end of things...(Velvet Scoter)

Following a protracted mild period since the summer, conditions suddenly changed with the first frost (Nov 20th) and a light dusting of snow...
