Cattle egret

Hanover point car park..

Haven't posted for a while. But got out today. Foggy start that gradually cleared. Went to brading this morning, 15 snipe seen out in the open was nice, obviously the colder and icier conditions forcing them to, and probably the most i've seen for a while.

The highlight came in the afternoon. Did a drive out to Hanover point near Compton bay - a lot of surfers there - and a lovely sunset was imminent so I stopped to photograph it. After taking a pic i turned around only to suddenly clock a white bird feeding in the field, and even without bins i could see it was a cattle egret.
Interestingly up to three birds were seen at a different location, further east in Chale, at the weekend. Whether it's wandered and is part of that group, or a new bird, is any one's guess.

New year

Spent the day out in the field today, did a kind of new year bird race type count but obviously a day late. Nice bright day albeit chilly, and totaled 81 species. Enjoyable.
Common sandpiper and a jack snipe probably the highlights.

Tail end of things...(Velvet Scoter)

Following a protracted mild period since the summer, conditions suddenly changed with the first frost (Nov 20th) and a light dusting of snow...
