SCP

East wind: 2 x velvet scoter, 16 x little gull, 2 x avocet. 400 + barwits east.
Possibly my fave moment though was when a lesser whitethroat landed nearby, rattled off a few times, and then flew past me in a northerly direction.

Shanklin

Whilst waiting for the car to be fixed, I ventured up onto Luccombe down from Shanklin. Picked up a common sandpiper going over and calling. Then had a few bits: tree pipit (x2 calls, so probably more than one - my first of the year). Also my first lesser whitethroat singing away and briefly perched out in the open.

Brading

Birding's had to take a back seat for the moment - for me anyway. But the coming week looks more hopeful for another wave of migrant birds to arrive at our shores - if the forecast lives up to it.

LRP at Brading NR early this morning. Also a fly over green sandpiper was my first of the year. As was a common sandpiper a couple of days ago. Not much else of note there..

SCP

This morning's conditions were much more conducive for a sea watch - though it took nearly an hour and half before any such sign of passage - at least it came and in the form of the first bonxie too. Then it was all go. Relatively...Gannets featured the most, with brent and kittiwake also in numbers. The first arctic skua cruised by too, as did some manxies (6+a single), and a couple more bonxies.

Early days. Always nice to see the first skuas.

Tail end of things...(Velvet Scoter)

Following a protracted mild period since the summer, conditions suddenly changed with the first frost (Nov 20th) and a light dusting of snow...
